Journey behind the scenes at the Zoo – Easter event at London Zoo

Kids can join in with Mini Keepers at ZSL London Zoo this Easter

Saturday 6 to Sunday 21 April 2019

I know its a little out the area, but I’m really excited to have been invited to try out Mini Keepers at London Zoo – an event that they are running over the 2 weeks of Easter, You can buy tickets in advance so you want walk straight through. Click here for more information.

It was a huge hit with my girls. My eldest said it was her favourite part of her trip but it is suitable for young ones too.

Kids get to dress up in a fleece and lanyard and learn the basics of being a zoo keeper and they get to play and pretend to carry out some of the tasks. Although its only pretend, it is hands on and fun for them. Some of the different aspects include administering medicine, preparing food and scooping up (fake) dung.

The keepers tell you lots of facts and information about how they actually do things at the zoo so my daughters found it interesting. They run at regular intervals throughout the day so there is plenty of opportunity to have a go.

Mini Keepers is included in your entry (which is free for ZSL members). If you want a special day out I would definitely recommend. There are lots of different animals to Whipsnade and lots of indoor and outdoor bits so its ok even in bad weather.

This is what they say 🙂

ZSL London Zoo is inviting children to become zookeepers this Easter – at Mini Keepers, a fun packed role-playing experience for junior animal lovers.

From Saturday 6 to Sunday 21 April, kids will be able to step into the role of a zookeeper at ZSL London Zoo, during a packed Easter of immersive family events celebrating their incredible work.

After arriving for work through a secret entrance in the Zoo, new recruits will be kitted out in uniform and given their daily check lists, before being taken on a journey behind the scenes to the heart of the action – in the specially recreated keeper kitchen.

Becoming part of the action, children will help keepers prepare lunch for the squirrel monkeys, create fun activities for the meerkats and experience the biggest job in a keepers’ daily life – mucking out – experiencing a real day in the life of the Zoo’s expert animal team.

After the uniforms come off, a packed schedule of demonstrations and activities throughout the week will take families further inside the exciting world of the Zoo: explaining everything the ZSL team does to care for its 19,000 residents – from preparing mountains of fresh veg for the Zoo’s troop of Critically Endangered western lowland gorillas to cleaning up after the 95 Humboldt penguins on Penguin Beach.

Mini Keepers is part of a whole year of interactive behind-the-scenes activities at ZSL London Zoo. A great value day out, Mini Keepers and all extra activities are included in the entry price. Beat the queues at the gate and book tickets online now at www.zsl.org
